If you were anywhere near Easton, Maryland on Thursday, August 20, 2026, you might have heard the sounds of a human stampede leaving the town. That was members of the local Democrat party as they hurried to the theoretical exit after a volunteer for their central committee laid a giant, smelly miscalculated turd in the middle of this election season.

The volunteer, Lance Simon, made a call on social media to boycott a local business, Gay's Seafood and Deli, because they had signs supporting Republican Talbot County Council Candidates. He must have envisioned the boycott as a win for his party as fellow Dems, and some Independents, would set up a protest outside the business. He probably thought he would either shut Gay's down or run them out of business.
It did everything but that. In fact, Simon probably helped Gays triple their business after a post from the Talbot County Sheriff, Joe Gamble on FACEBOOK:
Up to that point, I'm sure Mr. Simon was thinking he had scored numerous political points for his party. He never thought that someone like Sheriff Gamble, an unimpeachable law enforcement officer of Talbot County, would stand up for a local business and what is right.
In a quote from the STAR DEMOCRAT, Simon said he was "caught up in being a little perturbed." Perturbed about what? Perturbed about Gay's signs on private property possibly not being code-permitted? He called for a boycott of Gay's business.
That's when Gamble posted his thoughts on Mr. Simon's actions. At that point, the internet exploded with hundreds of comments condemning Simon's actions. Most were from Republicans, some from Democrats. Most thanked Gamble and praised Gay's Seafood. Others promised to give their business to Rennie Gay. Many mentioned that we need to bring people together, not divide them with actions like Mr. Simon's.
Some were not very kind to Mr. Simon. For decencies sake we won't share those.
Simon eventually "apologized" and even went to Gay's and bought some crab soup. He said his action was just "plain stupid." He told the Star Democrat, " I wish I had not called for a boycott because I've had a small business and you know, boycotting is just not very nice and should be left to extreme situations."
Sounds more like, "I wish I hadn't called for a boycott because I'm catching a lot of heat for it." It was the typical non-apology apology.
Believe me, if Joe Gamble hadn't called him out, Simon would be out there leading a march of protesters on Gay's Seafood while shouting all kind of foul names at the owners and their customers.
What is interesting about Simon's apology is that he was upset that Gamble called him out in such a "public forum." Apparently, he got some scary, "not very nice" messages because of it. Hypocritically, he didn't think it was appropriate for Gamble to say anything. After all, Simon thought by using that same public forum a ton of blue haired liberal citizens would love him and call him a hero.
Didn't work out like that and now he is playing victim. Seriously.
The Talbot Democrat Committee Chairman, Phil Jackson, made a statement that disavowed the committee from Simon's actions. He characterized Simon as engaging in these activities on his own and not in his capacity as a central committee volunteer. He said the "initial" call for a boycott was "completely unsupported by the party and our values." I'd like to see the receipts on that since Jackson himself is not afraid of disparaging and insulting others who disagree with him.
I'm calling BS on that statement.
You will never convince me that the DCC of Talbot didn't know what Simon was up to. I think he told them what he wanted to do and they cheered him on because they thought it was a great strategy. They were going to push the code enforcement issue first and follow up with a boycott. It probably sounded good at the time. Now there's a scapegoat grazing around the Democrat Central Committee headquarters.
They call him Lance.

Simon did finally remove the mention of the boycott from his social media post.
Too little, too late Lance.
It's funny how keyboard warriors turn tail and run when there are real people holding them accountable with actual consequences. It's also funny how fast their "supporters" disappear.
No one likes miscalculations. Or smelly turds. That's a lesson Lance just learned.
