Dear TCPS Community, The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community remain our top priority. We have become aware of a situation in which a member of our school community has made statements that some have found concerning. We are currently working closely with the Sheriff's Office, as we do with all matters of student and staff safety. Out of an abundance of caution, additional safety measures are in place while the situation is being addressed.

There will be an increased presence of law enforcement at all of our buildings beginning Monday, November 3. We also want to remind everyone of the following safety protocols, as previously shared with staff: Visitor Screening - All visitors must be screened before entry into a building is permitted. While you may know who someone is and be familiar with them, the screening process must still take place.
Staff will ask that visitors sign in and take a sticker to visually indicate that they have been screened. Staff Entry - It is also important that all staff are aware that they should not hold doors for anyone, including other staff members, when entering the building. Each staff member must utilize their badge to enter.
While I understand it is the nature of everyone on our team to be helpful, we must all always allow the door to close behind us before someone else enters. Propping Doors - Under NO circumstances may exterior doors be propped open before, during, or after school. This single act allows instant access to anyone and can undermine a great number of our safety and security protocols. Staff should also not allow students to prop open any doors.
School security staff will be conducting their exterior door checks regularly. At this time, there is no direct threat to our schools or community members. We recognize that situations like this can cause concern, and we are committed to keeping you informed and to maintaining a safe, calm environment for all.

After contact with Sheriff Joe Gamble, the Easton Gazette confirmed the details above and that the Talbot County Sheriff's Office have dealt with the situation. They have also scheduled extra precautions at the schools.
