Chooses Robert Krop as Running Mate
Former State Delegate and Republican Candidate for Governor Dan Cox has filed to enter the 2026 Gubernatorial Race. After Cox defeated Larry Hogan backed candidate for Governor Kelly Schulz in the 2022 Republican primary, he lost to current Governor Wes Moore. Hogan recently announced that he would not be running for governor.

Moore has said he will run for re-election. Polls show that Moore's approval rating is down because of the high cost of living due to high power bills and fees and taxes in Maryland, allegations of fraud, outlandish spending, and mismanagement in state government/services, and an unpopular push for redistricting of Maryland's election boundaries. Many voters see Moore as pandering to the national Democrat party rather than serving the citizens of Maryland.
It is also widely rumored that Moore has his eyes on the Presidency in 2028, despite his denials.
Cox, who is from Frederick, has been a long time advocate for family values, rewarding hard work, and creating opportunities for citizens. In the past he has pledged to prioritize careful, transparent spending funded by reasonable taxes and fees, support families, keep Maryland retirees in the state by supporting reasonable taxes for senior citizens.
He has also discussed affordable options for first time home buyers and strengthening the state's power grid.
President Donald Trump supported Cox in 2022 and helped him with fundraisers.
Cox has named Robert Krop as his running mate. Krop owns THE MACHINE GUN NEST, a shooting range business. He was acquitted of charges of conspiring with Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins to mislead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to illegally acquire seven machine guns for Krop’s shooting range business in 2024. The charges against Jenkins were dismissed.
Other Republican candidates for Governor are John Myrick, Ed Hale, and Kurt Wedekind.
