The Easton Gazette Endorses Johnny Mautz For Maryland State Senate, District 37

State Senator Johnny Mautz In His Office In Annapolis
In the Maryland State Senate election for District 37, residents have a familiar face running for re-election. He's a citizen legislator, a business owner, a dad, a native of the Eastern Shore, and a friend to residents of Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, and Wicomico County, Republican AND Democrat. And he is an experienced voice in Annapolis.
When you ask any of us who Johnny is and what he has done for the Eastern Shore, the answers are easy.

Mautz was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2014 and served District 37B from January 2015 through January 2023. During that period, he served on the House Economic Matters Committee and became Chair of the Talbot County Delegation. His committee work included public utilities, workers' compensation, consumer protection, and economic development issues.
In 2022 Mautz was elected to the Maryland State Senate, taking his seat in January of 2023 and serving until the present. He represents the largest geographic district in Maryland.
He has sponsored and helped pass bills to ease utility bills, save the jobs of watermen and fishermen, preserve fisheries and promote oyster management programs, help the agricultural and rural economy, lower health care costs, protect small businesses, reform regulatory and government practices, and protect hunting and outdoor recreation.
During his time in the House and Senate, Mautz has brought projects, grants and legislation to every part of this district. The top then of these total $106,250,000 for the Shore. These projects included but were not limited to:
- Christian Shelter Life
- American Legion
- Dorchester Center of the Arts
- Mace's Lane Community Center
- Salisbury Elks Lodge
- St. Michaels Community Center
- The Arc Central Chesapeake Region at Port Street
- Cambridge Municipal Building
- Anna Murray Douglas Museum and Visitor Center
- Emergency Services Regional Training Campus
- Cambridge Municipal Building Preservation Project
- BAAM Academic Center
- Epoch Dream Center
- Water's Edge and Bellevue Passage Museums
- University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center
There isn't a city, town, or county of the Eastern Shore that Johnny Mautz hasn't positively impacted.
But that's just part of the story. Johnny understands the Eastern Shore because he has lived here his entire life. He runs a business and knows the stresses on businessmen to make payroll, pay the bills, provide employment and be successful. He's a friend to watermen, farmers, law enforcement, families, educators, and small businesses. He's raising his children here.
Not only does he understand the Eastern Shore and its residents, but he is accessible and responsive when they ask for his help. For example, in the middle of a terribly busy campaign season when candidates are rushing from event to event, Johnny answered a call from two Oxford residents who asked him to come talk to the town about the possibilities of saving the famous Robert Morris Inn from destruction. He was there last week and spent an hour going over options for keeping the Inn from being lost. Imagine giving that much time to a tiny town of approximately 600 residents.
There are numerous other examples.
Personally, I have known Johnny for over a decade. During that time, I have seen him at meetings, gatherings, fundraisers for non-profits, and other events. But, most important, I know him as a person, a citizen legislator I can contact any time I need help with a problem, advocacy for good legislation, or information for a story. He always gets back to me quickly.
He's also my friend in the legislature, like he is for every citizen in his district; all 127,699 of them.
That's the Johnny Mautz WE KNOW!
Re-elect Johnny Mautz, State Senator, District 37!
