The Commissioners Election in 2023 was probably the most highly charged and hotly contested the Town of Oxford had ever seen. The town had undergone serious turmoil since the sudden "retirement" of longtime Police Chief Maxwell in 2023. The event and many others caused citizens to question the actions of the Town Manager, Cheryl Lewis and the Commissioners for the previous decades.

It was in that atmosphere the 2023 Commissioner's election between Josh Coder and Norm Bell took place. Bell, who many considered the "establishment candidate" won by 12 votes. Even in a town of fewer than 600 residents, the margin of victory was slim. This led to allegations of non-residents voting, unsecured and possibly invalid absentee ballots, and a general lack of transparency regarding voting and ballot collection/retention. The refusal of town administrators to answer questions didn't make things better.

The addition of new Town Manager Holly Wahl a little over a month ago has made things much better in Oxford, but many residents still call for more clarity and accountability in how elections are conducted.

So, as the town approaches another election in the Spring/Summer of 2025, the Oxford Commissioners have presented Resolution 2501:

A copy of this resolution can be found at www.oxfordmd.net

The hearing for this resolution will be presented in a hearing on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 6 p.m. at the Town Office, 101 Market Street, Oxford.

Residents are encouraged to attend.

Thanks Jan for your summation of continued problems in our town of Oxford. It is unconscionable to me to suggest that part time property owners and thus taxpayers, NOT have the right to vote in our town elections. We are not being ASKED, we are being TOLD! This is disgraceful and shameful behavior. Status quo needs to change.
