Sunday May 12 saw a flurry of political letters and opinion pieces in The Star Democrat. There was an attack on Shari Wilcoxon's defense of President Trump. Shari's piece was first published in all its fullness here in The Easton Gazette. The attack upon her defense of Trump dredged up more of the lies of the liberal media, most of which she had already addressed quite sensibly.

The main contention of the attacks is that Trump is determined to become a dictator at some point. How any one can reasonably believe such nonsense shows the capacity of the media for brainwashing otherwise intelligent people. Trump was scrupulously careful to follow the Constitution and work with Congress.

And of course, there is always the bizarre accusation that, due to Trump, women have "lost control of their bodies" and are being forced to give birth. What? Do women become pregnant just by breathing the air? Don't most American women have some say in when, where and why they engage in behavior which even Neanderthals knew would lead to offspring? Have we so regressed to the point where people no longer know where babies come from and so are surprised by their coming as if they just appeared in a cabbage patch dropped by a stork? It has been my impression, just by existing in the 21st century, that women have more means of control over their bodies than at any other time in history, both legally and medically. It is not that women have "lost control" of their bodies because they have not. It is that some women no longer possess self-control, if they ever had it at all.

The other letters from last Sunday both attacked and defended the group Moms for Liberty. Liberals see the Moms as a sort of new female Gestapo. Jan Greenhawk's defense was published in The Star Democrat on Sunday although it first appeared here. Her answer to a virulently hateful Facebook post is here. Another letter defending the Moms, first published in The Star Democrat, we now replicate here, with the author's permission. It is by Kent Robertson, a member of the Talbot County Republican Central Committee.

    Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to an OpEd in the Star Democrat about Moms for Liberty (M4L) and the School Board candidates. Mr Johnson regurgitated negative press from national media without contacting the Talbot County chapter of M4L.

I am a member and have attended several meetings. I do not speak for the group in any capacity, only as a member who shares their concerns.

The group was formed as a local group during the COVID response, called the Family Advocacy Alliance...citizens concerned about the nationwide push for masking of our children and the school closure mandates.  Later the teaching of critical race theory and gender fluidity became a major concern. The group only later joined the M4L organization.

Many parents nationwide are dismayed that kids are being taught they are either "oppressors" or "oppressed" depending on their race. They are being told such things as "boys can have babies" and that people can actually change their gender...in school. Trans boys are allowed to compete against girls in sports, and use female bathrooms. They are finding books in their children's elementary school libraries with sexually explicit photos of every imaginable sex act. If we want books removed, it is this kind of book to which we are objecting. (Banning books like Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, I find objectionable.) All of this seems to be promoted by national and state teacher organizations, who have great influence in federal and state legislation.

Since the school "report cards" came out and showed dismal proficiency scores in Math and English for all grade levels in Talbot County, that became a major concern of the group.

The Maryland Board of Education Blueprint for the Future (with its mandates regarding some of these issues that are tied to school funding) is another major concern.

Moms for Liberty of Talbot would like to support Talbot School Board candidates who have these issues front and center. People who can think out of the box and find solutions that have been elusive when following the National and State agendas. We want a School Board that will demand proficiency at all grade levels.

I am not aware of any candidates that have been endorsed by Moms for Liberty to date.

Above and beyond all else Moms for Liberty stresses parents' rights to have a major voice in their children's education and THE major say in their social and sexual upbringing. M4L members believe that schools are there to teach our kids HOW to think critically, not WHAT to think.

I suggest that interested parties do some basic research and attend a meeting or two before forming an opinion about Moms for Liberty, Talbot.

    Kent Robertson

We thank Kent for his common sense and encourage more people to write letters. But before you write, become informed about the facts of the matter.

Tuesday May 14 was Election Day, for those of us who do not believe in early voting. It rained; the turn-out was low. The next day, I could not find the results reported anywhere. They certainly were not in The Star Democrat. I asked around and a friend who is politically-minded sent me a link to the Maryland State Board of Elections, here. While voting was low statewide, the turnout was higher in Talbot County than elsewhere.

I knew that Hogan had probably won the GOP primary for candidate for US Senate, and he had. We had some other excellent candidates for Senate who were interviewed in The Easton Gazette. We hope they stay active in politics since they have voices which should be heard. We hope that running has acquired for them contacts and support so that they may stay in the fight to save America.

The incumbent Andy Harris won the GOP primary for Maryland's 1st Congressional District. I am impressed by Dr. Harris every time I hear him speak. His words at the Debate gave me a lot to think about. Once again, we hope that the other candidates stay in the political arena as we need men of principle participating in the process.

As for the presidential primary, I am always sickened that so many continue to support Biden. Was it last week that he made the Sign of the Cross when discussing abortion? How satanic is that? People are being murdered and children are being trafficked because of the open border. Drugs are flooding our country. People, such as one of my cousins, asked me why I could not support a "devout Catholic" like Biden. Actually it is because I am a Catholic that I cannot support a man who places such a high priority on the murder of unborn children. Even if I did not know so many other terrible things about Biden the support for abortion would be enough.

The other major problem with Biden is that it is clear he is suffering from some form of dementia. I say this as someone who has professionally cared for the elderly for over thirty years. The halting way he walks, and the constant forgetfulness during his speeches, are but two clear signs to me. Someone in such a state should not be President. Clearly, he is being used by others, but by whom?
